Be Still


This photo was taken on Easter Sunday 2011. My husband and I went to Myrtle Beach for the weekend and He read to me from scripture the beautiful passage of Christ’s death and resurrection. It was truly a blessing to be able to listen to him share this beautiful story with me, but then to be able to bask in the Glory of our Father with the rising of the sun was icing on the cake.

Psalm 46:10-11 says

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,
 I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

For me, I see our Father in the rising of the sun, in the beautiful palette He paints for us everyday. It reminds me of the movie with Nicholas Cage called City of Angels, where angels all gather on the beach to watch the sunrise. The beauty is then compounded by the power of the waves at that very moment.

While we cannot all be on a beach during a sunrise (even though we may all like that lol), God gives us the ability to Be Still and know that He is God every morning, every evening when the sun sets. He reminds us that we can be still and seek Him at any time of the day. Stepping outside and seeking the beauty of the blue sky, the clouds tucked in it’s depths allowing you to stop, breathe and seek His Presence. God in His perfect omnipresence says, “I will come to you, all you have to do is Be Still and know that I am here. . . .” Isn’t that beautiful? We don’t have to go far away to feel Him, see Him, we only have to ask Him.

And just as we can seek His Presence everyday, we are reminded in Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. His compassion (aka mercies) are new every morning, they never fail. Great is His Faithfulness!!

Take a moment today, tomorrow, and the next to Be Still; bask in His Glory. Breathe in His Spirit, Know that He is God.

Thank you Father that we have the opportunity to be in Your Presence. Thank You that Your compassions are new every day and You serve to remind us of this in Your Creation.
