Be Fruitful and Multiply

Updated: Feb 27

God placed on my heart a deep love for the unborn. Several years ago as a friend was travailing for a child and another was struggling with her pregnancy, God gave me a vision that I will never forget.

As a child develops in the womb it is protected. Every cell formed and perfectly housed in what God calls the “secret place.”

As the child grows so do his senses. He begins to feel, see, hear. The heartbeat of his mom is a beautiful cadence that ushers in peace. He presses out and leaps for joy when he hears the lilt of her voice. The secret place is a safe place. Psalm 91 tells us that those who dwell in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. It is in this secret place that we first learn of the love of our Father as we rest in the refuge He has created for us.

While it’s true that not all babes find their way into the world, the Lord allowed me to feel the sadness of His heart when a parent has to say goodbye. But He also showed me the joy of Heaven when they were introduced into His presence.

It was a beautiful picture of God’s love for His creation.

The pinnacle of this vision was yet to come as the child prepares for his first reveal. The Lord showed me how the mother sacrifices so much to share in His creation. Her body, her time, her aspirations. With a big smile He said, “My joy is great when a woman partners with me toward my purpose. I chose humanity to carry a beautiful gift to the world- my love. When a woman chooses to partner with me, she is choosing to heal a hurting world as a conduit of my love. Just as I sent Jesus into this world to redeem, I send each woman with an invitation to partner with me in sharing my heart.”

I was in tears. Why would God choose me, a sinner? Why would He invite me into fulfilling His purpose on earth? “I am unworthy of the task, God,” I said.

“Oh, my Daughter, you are my handiwork created in Christ Jesus. What greater work is there than to share my love with the world? You were made for such a time as this.”

God lifted my face up and I felt the whisper of His hand cup my tears as He allowed me the opportunity to see the most beautiful moment in time- BIRTH.

As the child entered the birth canal an urgency began. Mom, dad, along with a team of doctors and nurses began the race of a lifetime, to deliver the babe healthy and happy. Perhaps this was a first for the new mom, perhaps she didn’t understand what was happening within her body, but her body knew. The finish line was near and her body had a job to do.

Tears tiptoeing down her cheeks from pain and exhaustion, the mom prepares for her last push and then you hear it. The moment that our Creator was waiting for. The moment He foresaw when He declared His creation “very good.” The moment that He excitedly prepared for as He instructed His creation to be fruitful and increase in number. The moment this child, whom God formed in his mother’s womb, would take his first breath. God showed me how He breathed the breath of life into man and continued to breathe the breath of life into every baby born into this world. I could hear the intake- as if the child knew that this sweet inhale would connect him to the One who lovingly formed each cell within.

As the mother looked at what her body delivered, she was in awe. You could see the thoughts crossing her mind, how could this perfection come from my body? Why would God choose me? And then their eyes met, the cries of her newborn would hush for a moment as their hearts connected for the very first time. Recognizing the heartbeat as she rocked him slowly, he knew that his purpose was only beginning.

My Abba left me with this message, “I have chosen you, Daughter. I have chosen woman to share my love with the world. Whether she delivers a babe from her own body, fosters a child going through a season of trauma, adopts a child into her home or mentors a young heart finding her identity, I have chosen her to continue my plan of sharing love to this weary world. This is an important task, and just as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. My Love will pour out and you my daughters have the opportunity to partner with me on this beautiful journey.”

As I sit in prayer over the heavy decisions being made in our country, God reminds me of this beautiful moment in time and asks me to share it with you. I pray that you too will see through His eyes. See the heart of a Father for His creation. We are not a cosmic accident, a project, or symbols / recipients of hate. We are not the sum of our successes or our failures. We are not the mistake of an unplanned pregnancy. We are God’s beautiful creation made in His Image for a purpose. We are made by Love for love. When God told Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply, He was giving them an invitation to partner with Him in the greatest gift- LIFE. And He has asked us to do the same. We were made for such a time as this.

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

Psalm 139:13-14
